Recently, I had the opportunity to experience the VIP Arrival Service at Punta Cana Airport, alongside my other agent, Hildy. Three other agents in our group did not purchase the VIP upgrade, which gave us a great point of comparison.
The VIP service costs $100 per person (plus tax) and includes expedited immigration and customs, along with access to a private lounge. On this particular day, the airport wasn’t very busy, and we got to the lounge from the plane in less than 10 minutes. The lounge itself was basic but offered drinks like beer, water, and soda—just enough to help us relax after a long flight.
Time Savings: Was It Worth It?
One of the main perks of the VIP service is skipping the long lines at immigration and customs. In our case, the two of us who opted for the VIP service arrived at customs a full 30 minutes ahead of the rest of our travel party, who did not purchase the upgrade. And keep in mind, this was on a relatively slow day at the airport.
If you're traveling during the off-season, from August to October, when the airport is generally quieter, the VIP service might not be necessary. However, from November through April—especially during peak winter months (January through March) and the holiday season—having the VIP service could make a significant difference in getting through the airport quickly and starting your vacation on the right foot.
Is It Worth the Price?
The VIP Arrival Experience at Punta Cana Airport has a $100+ price tag. For travelers looking to save time and avoid the stress of waiting in long lines, especially during the busy season, the convenience is definitely worth it. On a slow day, it’s a nice luxury, but perhaps not a must-have.
